Police from Murang’a arrest a man after the Kenol robbery incident
By David Nthua, December 8, 2025The 40 days for a man believed to be part of a robbery gang operating in Murang’a County have come to an abrupt end after officers moved in to apprehend him during a coordinated sting.
The operation was launched after residents shared timely tips that helped police map out movements tied to a recent violent attack near Kenol Market.

According to the National Police Service statement on Sunday, December 7, 2025, a resident was cornered by three armed men who fled in different directions, making pursuit difficult in the early hours of the investigation.
Police said the trail eventually led them to the Gitura area in Kimorori Location as officers analysed patterns reported by witnesses.
The scattered nature of the gang forced investigators to adjust their strategy and rely heavily on public cooperation to narrow down the search.

Public cooperation
According to police, the person of interest was traced only after locals volunteered crucial clues that placed him near the crime scene.
“Police officers in Murang’a South Sub-County have arrested a key suspect linked to a robbery incident reported in the Kenol Market area, where a resident was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone and cash by a group of three armed men,” the NPS statement reads.
A detailed search in Gitura followed, leading to the discovery of several mobile phones and accessories believed to have been stolen during recent incidents.
“Following public cooperation and prompt police action, one suspect was traced to the Gitura area in Kimorori Location.
“Officers conducted a search and recovered multiple mobile phones and accessories believed to have been stolen,” the NPS statement added.

Investigators have since secured the items for verification as they work to link each piece of evidence to earlier complaints filed at the station.
Ongoing pursuit
“The suspect was arrested and escorted to Kenol Police Station for processing, as investigations continue to pursue the remaining accomplices,” the NPS statement reads.
Police say two additional individuals believed to have participated in the attack remain at large, but officers are confident the breakthrough will support continued tracking efforts.
“The National Police Service commends both the officers involved and the members of the public for their assistance,” NPS thanks the public for the cooperation.
The service closed its statement with a call for vigilance and urged Kenyans of goodwill to always be ready to report any crime via their free toll numbers.
