Police dig up buried body of farm worker in Embu after days of investigations
By William Muthama, August 6, 2026Police in Embu County have exhumed the body of a 29-year-old farm worker on Thursday, August 6, 2026, who is suspected to have been murdered by a colleague and secretly buried.
According to Embu West Police Commander Vincent Kitili, investigators traced the victim’s last movements before arresting the main suspect. During questioning, the suspect led detectives to the location where the victim’s body had been buried.
Kitili said the suspect was subjected to extensive interrogation before revealing the burial site.
“The suspect was thoroughly interrogated by police and later led detectives to the place where he had concealed the body after committing the crime. He is currently in police custody and has already been presented before the court as we seek additional time to complete investigations,” Kitili said.
Kitili confirmed that the suspect has since been arraigned in court, where police are seeking more time to complete their investigations.
Police exhumed the body in the presence of investigators before transferring it to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
The discovery was made after the victim’s family reported him missing, prompting detectives from Embu West to launch investigations into his disappearance.
Family mourns as they seek justice
The victim’s family described the discovery as devastating, saying they had hoped he would be found alive after reporting him missing.
His sister, Margaret Muthono, said the family was shocked to learn that he was suspected to have been killed by his co-worker.
“We were called and asked to come. When we arrived, we found that things were not as we had expected. My brother had been killed by the person he was working with. We have now received his body and want to proceed with burial arrangements. We are asking the authorities to ensure justice is served,” she said.
Muthono appealed to the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, describing the incident as an act of cruelty that has left the family in pain.
