The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has flagged a fake website that has been conning unsuspecting Kenyans out of their money.

Through its official X handle, the NTSA has warned the public that the platform operating under the name Mverified does not belong to the authority.

NTSA has advised anyone who has been conned through the fake platform to report the matter to the nearest police station for further action.

“Alert: Mverified website does not belong to NTSA,” the NTSA posted on X.

This has made it clear that any services offered through the site are fraudulent.

The warning has come amid rising cases of online fraud targeting Kenyans seeking quick government services.

In the same breath, NTSA has explained that scammers often exploit popular services linked to vehicle ownership, knowing that many applicants are in urgent need of documents.

This is because they know that may not double-check website links before making payments.

Official process explained

To counter the scam, NTSA has outlined the correct and official process of applying for a motor vehicle copy of records.

According to the authority, the service is only available through the NTSA Service Portal accessible via the eCitizen platform at serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke.

The authority has stated that the application fee is Ksh 550, payable directly through an individual’s eCitizen account, and that the turnaround time is instant.

Any platform requesting different charges or redirecting users outside eCitizen should be treated as suspicious.

NTSA has further explained that a motor vehicle copy of records is an official document containing details such as the chassis and engine number, registered owner information, make and model, year of manufacture, and date of registration.

Applicants are required to log in to their eCitizen account, select the NTSA service portal, go to services, click on motor vehicle copy of records, enter the registration or chassis number, submit the request, select a payment mode, and download the document under application history.

The authority has also shared a sample screenshot labelled “Copy of Records” to help Kenyans identify the genuine document.

NTSA has urged the public to remain vigilant, verify website addresses carefully, and rely only on official government platforms.
