Murkomen renews govt fight against alcoholism
By Babu Tendu, January 26, 2026Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, on Monday, January 26, 2026, stated that they are planning a new fight against alcohol and drug abuse.
Through a statement published on his social media account, Murkomen revealed that he had met with heads of departments and agencies under the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration to review their priorities and strategies for effective implementation.
Alongside alcohol and drug abuse, Murkomen stated that the ministry was also gearing up for a renewed fight against banditry and criminal gangs and bringing up their efforts towards making service delivery easily accessible to the people.

Moreover, he stated that they were focused on providing a platform for feedback and accountability.
“We focused on strengthening service delivery and improving planning processes, while providing a platform for feedback and accountability. We also discussed measures to fast-track the implementation of key reforms,” he said.
Ministry’s priorities
“Our priorities include renewed fight against alcohol and drug abuse, sustaining the fight against banditry and criminal gangs, and bringing government services closer to the people,” he added.
“We will work together as a Ministry to ensure efficient service delivery, strengthened coordination, and timely implementation of reforms that respond to the needs of the people.”
Present were the PS for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, Principal Administrative Secretary (National Administration), Beverly Opwora, Principal Administrative Secretary (Internal Security), Jacob Narengo, and heads of departments and agencies.” The statement read.

Murkomen found himself under fire and heavy criticism after worshipers were teargassed in a church in Othaya, where the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, was attending service.
In his statement, Murkomen condemned the incident and directed Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja to ensure there is a speedy investigation to uncover what really happened.
“As a Government, we remain firmly committed to upholding the tenets of democracy, including the right to lawful assembly and freedom of worship,” Murkomen stated.
