Multimedia student murder: Witness tells court accused confessed to killing Sylvia Kemunto
By Zipporah Ngwatu, January 26, 2026PK, a student at Multimedia University and a key witness in the murder of fellow student Sylvia Kemunto, has told the court that the accused confessed to killing the deceased.
Kemunto was killed on March 30, 2025, her body stashed in a suitcase and dumped in a water tank at the male hostel rooftop.
Erick Mutinda Philip, the accused in the murder, denied killing her, and a plea of not guilty was entered on April 29, 2025.

Appearing before Kibera High Court Lady Justice Diana Kavedza on Monday, January 26, 2026, PK told the court that the accused had called him and admitted responsibility for Sylvia’s death.
The accused told PK that he had strangled Sylvia by the neck until she died, then put her body in a suitcase and carried it to his room.
“When Erick called me, he said that he was the one who killed Sylvia by strangulation, holding her neck tightly, packed her in a suitcase, and took her to his room,” PK told the court.
He told the court that the accused also confessed that he was going to Tanzania using his father’s car and instructed him not to tell anyone about the plan, insisting it was their secret.
PK, who hails from the same area in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County, and was schooled together with the accused at Matiliku High School, also informed the court that at the time of the conversation, the accused was in Sultan.
The court heard that PK then decided to call Erick’s brother-in-law and asked him to advise Erick to surrender to the police.
The witness also told the court that he knew Sylvia was Erick’s girlfriend, even though the accused was still flirting with A and JO, students who are witnesses in the case.
Further, PK revealed that around mid-February 2025, Sylvia discovered that Erick was cheating on her with J, leading to a disagreement. Sylvia subsequently called off the relationship, but the accused continued pursuing her.
