Mosiria steps aside from Marion’s case amid backlash
By Valerian Khakayi, January 22, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has officially stepped aside from the matter involving Marion Naipei and James Opande, following growing public scrutiny and online backlash.
In an official statement released on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Mosiria emphasised that his intervention was strictly procedural.
He explained that, in his capacity as a public official, he receives numerous calls and complaints daily from citizens seeking assistance, justice, or protection.
“The people of Nairobi have spoken, and as a leader, I listen. Leadership demands clarity, courage, and accountability to those we serve. I wish to address recent concerns directly and factually,” Mosiria said.
“In my official capacity, I receive numerous calls and complaints daily from citizens seeking assistance, justice, or protection. It is the duty of a responsive government to listen and act in accordance with the law. On 16/01/2026, a woman approached my office seeking help in her pursuit of justice.
I had no prior relationship with her. Following standard procedure, I intervened solely to ensure her concerns were directed through the appropriate legal channels.”

He added that the government does not judge or deny justice based on an individual’s past, asserting that his duty is to uphold dignity, guarantee access to justice, and serve all citizens equitably.
“I have since received information from individuals commenting on her background. Let me state unequivocally, the government does not judge, profile, or deny justice to anyone based on their past. Our responsibility is to uphold dignity, guarantee access to justice, and serve all citizens equitably,” he added.
Stepping aside
Mosiria acknowledged that the matter had been misrepresented by some individuals attempting to discredit him, saying the issue had now been politicised.
“I have listened to the voice of the people of goodwill. Leadership also means knowing when an issue has been politicised beyond its purpose. After reflection and counsel, I have chosen to step aside from this particular matter not out of weakness, but out of respect for public confidence and institutional integrity,” he added.
“Regrettably, this matter has been misrepresented by those seeking to discredit my name and distract from the critical work being done for Nairobi. I will not allow rumours or personal attacks to undermine my duties.”
He clarified that this decision is neither a retreat nor a concession to critics, but a reaffirmation of his commitment to serve with integrity.

“Let me be clear, this is neither a retreat nor a concession to critics. It is a reaffirmation of my commitment to serve with integrity, uphold justice, and protect the dignity of every citizen,” Mosiria stated.
In addition, Mosiria reiterated his focus on Nairobi’s citizens and his dedication to upholding justice and institutional accountability.
“This issue is no longer within my office. My role was to receive complaints and channel them to the relevant authorities. The matter now rests with those authorities and, ultimately, with God,” he reiterated.
