Mosiria decries new illegal dumping habits planted near a school in Nairobi
By Cynthia Lodite, December 8, 2025Geoffrey Mosiria, the Head of the Customer Care Department in Nairobi County, has decried a new illegal dumping habit planted near a school and a company in Nairobi County.
In a post on his official X account on Monday, December 8, 2025, Mosiria revealed that he had received complaints over a dumping site along Likoni Road just months after the dumping site was closed.

“Yesterday, I received a complaint from a company located next to the illegal dumping site along Likoni Road. They reported that after months of peace following the closure of the dumping site, when I was serving as the Chief Officer for Environment, the illegal activities had resumed,” Mosiria stated.
On his part, Mosiria announced that after visiting the site, which he said was close to a learning institution, to confirm the allegations, indeed, the area was heavily polluted and is unsafe for human breathing.
“Wamerudi na full force wanamwaga uchafu hii ni shule watoto wamepata magonjwa ya cancer na magonjwa zingine,” Mosiria said.

“I personally visited the site to confirm the report, and indeed, the dumping has started again. The area is heavily polluted, and the air quality alone is unsafe for human breathing. I will be taking this matter up with the Environment team for immediate action to have the site closed permanently,’ Mosiria added.

Cancellation of licenses
At the time, Mosiria had announced an investigation into the service providers behind the illegal dumping while vowing to follow up on the cancellation of licenses for the private waste service providers involved.
“I will also follow up on the cancellation of licenses for the private waste service providers involved, who are illegally dumping garbage at this site. We cannot allow anyone to disturb Nairobi residents in the name of earning a living,” Mosiria said.
While issuing a warning to the persons behind the illegal dumping, Mosiria revealed that a past program of ensuring a proper solution to help such groups establish a well-organized Material Recovery Facility, where they could earn decently without polluting the environment, was still intact.
“While in office, we had proposed a proper solution to help these groups establish a well-organized Material Recovery Facility, where they can earn decently without polluting the environment. That offer for structured support and full compliance still stands. As the county government, we must ensure all our clients coexist!” he added.
