List of Nairobi roads that will be closed during Africa Forward Summit

The National Police Service has announced a temporary traffic disruption in Nairobi ahead of the African Forward Summit 2026, scheduled for May 10 to May 12, 2026.

Police said several major roads in the city will be affected during the high-level event set to be held in Nairobi.

According to the notice issued on Saturday, May 9, 2026, traffic disruption will affect Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, and parts of the Nairobi Central Business District. Motorists have been advised to plan their movements early.

Police explained that the measures are meant to ensure public safety and allow smooth management of the African Forward Summit 2026. The summit is expected to bring together delegates and guests attending the event in Nairobi.

“To ensure public safety and the smooth management of the African Forward Summit 2026, scheduled to take place from 10th to 12th May 2026 in Nairobi, the National Police Service hereby notifies the public of temporary traffic disruption,” the statement read.

The advisory further stated that some roads near the Kenyatta International Convention Centre will be fully closed starting midnight on Monday, May 11, 2026. Only vehicles heading to the conference venue will be allowed access.

Roads set for closure

Police listed City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road among the roads that will remain closed during the summit period. Officers are expected to be deployed along the affected routes to manage traffic.

“From midnight on Monday, 11th May 2026, the following roads will be closed to all traffic except vehicles destined for the conference at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre,” the police said.

The National Police Service also said it is working together with other agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow within the city. Authorities urged motorists to cooperate with officers during the period of disruption.

“The National Police Service is working collaboratively with relevant agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow and a successful event,” the statement added.

Police further warned motorists against ignoring traffic rules during the summit. Drivers were asked to remain patient and follow directions issued by officers stationed on different roads.

“All motorists are urged to be patient, strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, and follow the guidance of officers stationed along the affected routes,” police said.

“Strict action will be taken against any person found violating traffic rules,” the statement concluded.
