Lawyer reveals filmmaker Nick Wambugu’s last wish before he died

Lawyer Ian Mutiso, representing four filmmakers connected with the production of the Blood Parliament documentary, has revealed the late Nicholas Wambugu’s wish before he died.

Wambugu died on the morning of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, hours before their case with three others was supposed to proceed before Milimani Principal Magistrate Eric Otieno Wambo.

Lawyer Mutiso informed the court that he had a conversation with the deceased on Monday, January 7, 2026, reminding him that they were scheduled to appear in court today for the case.

He told the court that the late Wambugu wanted the proceedings to be pushed forward since he was unwell and he could not make it to court.

“I spoke to this man (the late Wambugu) on Monday, January 5, 2026, and it was about today’s case, and he wanted us to push this forward since he could not make it to court as he was unwell,” lawyer Mutiso told the court.

However, the lawyer representing the deceased and his three other colleagues, Brian Adagala, Mark Denver Karubiu, and Chris Wamae, also told the court that despite him requesting for the case to be pushed forward, he expressed his interest in getting to the bottom of it.

“Your honour, despite the deceased requesting for the case to be pushed forward, he told me his interest was to ensure we get to the bottom of this matter,” lawyer Mutiso told the court.

The matter was adjourned for one week after Chief Inspector Nickson Kinywa informed the court that he had not been served with the bundles that the court had ordered the complainants to serve him with.

Officer Kinywa told the court that he has only received the chain of custody without the forensics, a statement that was vehemently denied by lawyer Mutiso, who informed the court that they served them with the two bundles.

“Your honour, what I have received is a chain of custody only, without the forensics,” Officer Kinywa told the court.

“The DCI is granted seven working days to obtain the expert reports from the court file so they can respond. The DCI is at liberty to file an affidavit of response, if need be,” Magistrate Wambo ruled.

The matter will be mentioned on January 14, 2026.
