Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Saturday February 28
By Valerian Khakayi, February 27, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions in parts of Kisumu County tomorrow, Saturday, February 28, 2026, as part of routine network maintenance.
The power outage is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make necessary arrangements to minimize disruption.
According to the utility company, the scheduled blackout is part of routine network maintenance.
“Good evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow(February 28,2026).The interruption is part of network maintenance, “Kenya Power stated.
Affected areas
According to Kenya Power, the blackout will affect customers in the Riat area and surrounding neighborhoods, including Swiz Hotel, Farm Machineries, Bukna Bance Park, Kapko, Ki-Boswa, Safaricon Booster, and adjacent premises.

Weekend weather update
In addition to power blackout, the Kenya Meteorological Department also issued an alert over the rains expected in some parts of the country during the weekend.
In an update provided on Friday, February 28, 2026, the weatherman noted that rainfall is expected over several parts of the Nairobi Metropolitan area,Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highland South Eastern Lowlands and South Coast.
“Showers and thunderstorms are expected over several parts of Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highlands (including Nairobi), South Eastern Lowlands and South coast tonight, tomorrow morning, and in the afternoon,” Kenya Met updated.

This comes after the weatherman confirmed the onset of long rains that will run from mid/late February through March, April, May and June.
“(KMD) has released an update on the onset of the March–April–May (MAM) 2026 Long Rains across Kenya. Rainfall received since mid-February has met the onset criteria in several regions, including western, central and highland areas,” the statement read in part.
Counties in Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Central, and South Rift Valley of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Western Laikipia and Narok are among those experiencing the long rains, which began in mid-February.
Others are Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Nyandarua, and Eastern Laikipia.
