Kenya Power announces scheduled blackout in Nairobi, 4 other counties on Monday, September 14
By Dan Kauna, September 13, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power supply interruptions expected to affect select parts of Nairobi, Bomet, Kericho, Murang’a, and Meru counties on September 14, 2026.
The utility company released the routine notice on its official social media channels to notify residents and business owners in advance.
Nairobi and Central Rift blackout details
In the Nairobi region, the power cut will affect the Kianda School, Kangemi, and Communication Authority areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Specific locations listed include parts of Waiyaki Way, Shell Waiyaki Way, Kangemi Gichagi, Kangemi Shangilia, Nairobi Water, Quickmatt Waiyaki Way, Silicon Craft, Kangemi Sodom, Kabete Technical, End Market, Mountain View Market, Kangemi Market, Kihumbuini Primary, Kangemi High, Kangemi Primary, Marenga Road, Co-op Bank Kangemi, and the Kangemi Bus Terminus.
In the Central Rift region, parts of Bomet and Kericho counties will experience outages. Bomet County will have a shutdown in Tenwek and Merigi from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Specific places affected include Gift Mart Supermarket, Equity Afia, Shell Petrol Station, Silibwet Market, Tenwek Mission Hospital, Tenwek High School, Njerian, Chepngaina, Motigo Factory, Stegro Tea Factory, Kiromwok, Kitomben, Mugango, and Salaik.
In Kericho County, parts of Ainamoi will be without electricity from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Areas involved include Gokul Quarry, West Valley Quarry, Laliat, Kiburet, Kapkormom, and Moitik.
Mt Kenya region blackout schedule
Two counties in the Mt Kenya region will also face interruptions from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. In Murang’a County, the maintenance will cover Njiris and Makomboki areas.
Specific locations listed are Kanyanjeru, Mwarano, Njiris High School, Mairi, Gatitu, Ikohokoko, Gatiaiani, Kairitu, Ciakahii, Gitwe, Ngecha, Makomboki Market, Makomboki Tea Factory, Ngurweini, and Kanderendu.
In Meru County, the maintenance will cover Marimba and Kathera areas. Locations affected include Marimba Market, Marimba Farm, Imenti Tea Factory, Kathera Girls, Kithirune Market, Uruku Prison, AIPCA Wesley, Kaubau, Kaguma TBC, Kagwampungu, Ntemwene, and Kanyoo.
Kenya Power carries out routine maintenance, network upgrades, and repairs to ensure a reliable electricity supply across the country. Residents in all affected areas are advised to prepare accordingly for the temporary shutdown.
