Kenya Met lists counties expected to receive rainfall on Saturday

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued its daily weather forecast for Saturday, January 10, 2026, predicting mostly sunny conditions across the country with isolated showers in select counties.

According to the forecast issued on Friday,January9,2026 at 3:00 p.m., sunny intervals are expected over most regions, although parts of the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria basin, and the Rift Valley itself may experience occasional afternoon showers.

Counties expected to see light showers include Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho, Narok, Nakuru, Kitale, Eldoret, Nyeri, Meru, Embu, Nairobi, Machakos, Makindu, and Kitui.

In contrast, the northwestern and northeastern regions including Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo are expected to remain mostly sunny.

Strong southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are forecast over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties, prompting a caution for residents and travelers in these areas.

The southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado, are expected to experience sunny mornings and mainly sunny afternoons, with a slight chance of showers near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Coastal counties Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River are forecast to enjoy sunny intervals throughout the day.

In a rainfall update covering the 24-hour period from 9:00 a.m. on January 8 to 9:00 a.m. on January 9, only Voi Meteorological Station recorded traces of rainfall, with the rest of the country remaining dry.

City forecasts indicate maximum temperatures ranging from 24°C in Kericho and Eldoret to 38°C in Garissa and Wajir.

Nairobi is expected to see sunny intervals with a high of 27°C and a low of 15°C. Sunrise and sunset times vary slightly across the country, with Nairobi seeing sunrise at 06:33 a.m. and sunset at 6:45 p.m.
