Justin Muturi warns IEBC Gen Z voters’ register out of bounds

By , February 16, 2026

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has told the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that tampering with the youth voters’ register is like touching a high-voltage transformer.

In a lengthy post on his official and verified X account on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Muturi said there are reports of a plot to manipulate the database ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Muturi shared that he had been engaging residents at Roysambu Roundabout and Githurai 44, where concerns about the integrity of the voter registration process were raised.

Youth voter registration concerns

According to Muturi, citizens expressed fears that attempts could be made to interfere with the registration of young people.

“Our engagements with wananchi continued at Roysambu Roundabout and Githurai 44, where we addressed pressing concerns surrounding the integrity of the upcoming electoral process,” he stated.

“As leaders entrusted with safeguarding democracy, we will not remain silent when credible concerns are raised by citizens about attempts to undermine their sovereign will.”

He further warned that any interference with voter registration, especially involving young people, would be met with lawful resistance.

“I wish to send a firm and clear warning to the IEBC that any scheme to interfere with voter registration processes, particularly attempts to tamper with the registration of young people, in favour of William Ruto, will be met with the full force of lawful and democratic resistance,” Muturi wrote.

Protecting democratic rights

Muturi also referred to reports of a meeting allegedly involving the National Registration Bureau in November last year, which he claimed was aimed at manipulating youth voter registration.

“We are aware of reports indicating that there was a meeting involving the National Registration Bureau in November last year, with alleged intentions aimed at manipulating youth voter registration, an action that would severely undermine the credibility and transparency of the electoral process,” he said.

He emphasised that Kenya’s democracy was built through sacrifice and that the right to register and vote freely must be protected.

“Kenya’s democracy was built through sacrifice, and the right of every Kenyan, especially our young people who represent the future of this nation, to register and vote freely is non-negotiable,” Muturi added.

He concluded by saying that the power to choose leadership belongs to the people and that institutions must uphold transparency and public trust in the electoral process.
