Grief as 2 secondary school students die in road accident
By Enock Amukhale, February 25, 2026A sombre mood has engulfed Kaptik Secondary School in Hamisi Sub-County, Vihiga County, after two students who were involved in a morning accident died in the hospital.
The two students were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead.
The students, together with a boda boda rider who died on the spot, were involved in a tragic road accident along the Chavakali–Kapsabet Road in Vihiga County on the morning of Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
The two Kaptik Secondary School students were riding on a motorbike heading to school when they were hit by a speeding lorry.
They were reportedly struck at the school gate just after the motorbike rider had turned to drop them off.
According to an eyewitness, the boda boda rider who was carrying the two students, Pastor Maxwell Aduma, died on the spot.

Kaptik Secondary School Principal David Bii confirmed that the two students who were rushed to Kaimosi Jumuia Hospital in critical condition had lost their lives.
“We have lost two of our students in a tragic road accident. The accident that happened in the morning involved two of our students, one in Form Three and the other in Form Four. They were riding on a motorbike heading to school when they were hit by a speeding lorry near the school gate along the Chavakali–Kapsabet Road. The two students were rushed to Kaimosi Hospital in critical condition, and unfortunately, they have been confirmed dead,” Bii said.
Bii added that a third student is admitted to Kapsabet County Hospital in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses said the lorry tried to overtake other vehicles when it hit the motorbike and its passengers.
They added that the motorbike got stuck under the lorry, dragging the victims several metres.
“We had a lorry coming from Cheptul at high speed, which tried to overtake other vehicles. When it attempted to overtake, it hit the motorbike carrying the two students. The boda boda rider died on the spot while the two students sustained fatal injuries,” said onlookers at the scene.
Hamisi Sub-County OCPD said he was away but had been informed of the accident involving school children.
The Chavakali–Kapsabet Road has been described as a black spot following many traffic accidents that have claimed lives.
Irate members of the public later barricaded the road following the accident that left two students and the boda boda rider dead.
