Geoffrey Mosiria forces Nairobian to pick up straw littered on the street
By Nancy Marende, January 15, 2026A Nairobian was forced to pick up a straw she had deliberately littered on a city street after being caught in the act by Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria.
In a video posted on his X handle on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Mosiria stated that the woman casually dropped the bottle near the Kenya Power offices, seemingly confident that no one was watching.
However, unknown to her, Mosiria was nearby and observed the incident unfold.
Moments later, Mosiria confronted the woman and instructed her to pick up the straw and dispose of it properly.
“This is a reminder that protecting our environment is everyone’s responsibility, even when we think no one is watching. Cleanliness is not enforced by fear, but by conscience,” he said.
This comes months after Mosiria promised swift action following the return of illegal dumping at a site along Likoni Road.
The site had been closed months ago during Mosiria’s tenure as Chief Officer for Environment, bringing relief to residents and nearby businesses. However, Mosiria said recent reports indicate that the area has once again become a hotspot for illegal waste disposal, raising serious health and environmental concerns.
“Yesterday, I received a complaint from a company located next to the illegal dumping site along Likoni Road. They reported that after months of peace following the closure of the dumping site when I was serving as the Chief Officer for Environment, the illegal activities had resumed,” Mosiria stated.
In a post shared via his X account on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the chief officer said he personally visited the site to assess the situation and confirm the reports.

He described a disturbing scene, noting that the area had become heavily polluted in a short period. According to him, the piles of waste pose significant health risks due to poor air quality, which is unsafe for human breathing.
“Indeed, the dumping has started again. The area is heavily polluted, and the air quality alone is unsafe for human breathing,” Mosiria stated.
