Criminals kill 80-year-old woman, get away with house items
By Enock Amukhale, February 25, 2026Tension has gripped Ebusiratsi Ekwanda village, Ebukhubu sub-location in Luanda Sub-county, after criminals killed an 80-year-old woman.
Criminals broke into the woman’s house at night, hacked her to death, and stole her valuables.
The body of the old woman, identified as Mama Okwisa, was discovered by her family members while dead in a pool of blood.
Area chief Evans Ouya, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, confirmed the incident, saying the case has been reported to the Luanda police station, and investigations have commenced.
“Yes, the incident has happened, and the police are conducting investigations and hunting the killer gang,” Ouya said.
The incident has instilled fear among residents in the Ebulonga location.
The incident comes a few days after a nominated member of Vihiga County Assembly representing women, Honourable Caroline Angote, has decried the high number of gender based violence being witnessed in Vihiga.

Angote has expressed concern over the number of cases where women are being raped and killed by criminals in various parts of Vihiga County.
He regretted that, according to reports, the elderly women are the majority of the victims.
She has decried the cases where old women are being raped and killed by unknown assailants in Vihiga.
Angote has said most of the gender based violence cases are being committed by young men.
He called upon youth to respect women and young girls and stop such beastly acts.
“Cases of gender based violence are on the rise in Vihiga County. Our old women are being raped and even killed. Our young children are being sexually molested. These cases are being committed by our young boys. They should stop,” Angote warned.

Honourable Angote has asked the security apparatus to deal decisively with the perpetrators of gender based violence.
She also regretted that Vihiga County is leading in the cases of gender based violence despite the county having the gender based violence rescue centre.
She said that the gender based violence rescue centre constructed in Vokoli should be supported to operate fully.
She noted that most of the perpetrators of gender based violence abuse illicit alcohol and other substances.
