Boni Khalwale announces date for wife Gloria’s burial

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has announced the burial date for his late wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale.

According to the funeral programme shared by the senator on Monday afternoon, August 17, 2026, Gloria will be laid to rest on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.

“We shall bury Mama on Friday, 21/08/26, at Malinya,” Khalwale shared.

The announcement comes two days after Gloria’s sudden death on Saturday, August 15. Khalwale had announced that his wife suddenly collapsed and died after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral programme

In the programme shared, the family will remove Gloria’s body from the mortuary on Thursday, August 20, ahead of the burial service the following day.

The burial service will be held at the Khalwale family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, on Friday.

“The funeral arrangements indicate that Gloria Khalwale, the beloved wife of Dr Boni Khalwale, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 21, 2026, at their family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency. Her body will be collected from the mortuary on Thursday, August 20, ahead of the burial service,” the programme reads.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,” the family stated, quoting Psalm 116:15.

The family also paid tribute to Gloria, saying her love, kindness and strength would remain fondly remembered.

Gloria’s death

Khalwale announced Gloria’s death on Saturday, August 15, 2026, saying she had suddenly collapsed before dying following a heart attack. The news triggered messages of condolence from political leaders, friends and Kenyans who expressed their support for the senator and his family.

Gloria was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children. The senator identified them as Engine Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.

Her death came nearly seven years after Khalwale lost his first wife, Adelaide Khalwale, who died in October 2019 and was also buried at the family home in Malinya.

As the family prepares to lay Gloria to rest, relatives, friends and political leaders continue to mourn her sudden passing and remember her life and contribution to the Khalwale family.
