Bomet family mourns 3 children killed in overnight house fire
By Valerian Khakayi, July 2, 2026A family in Bomet County is mourning the loss of three young children who died after an overnight fire gutted the kitchen where they were sleeping in Kimatisio Village, Nyongores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency.
Bomet senator Wakili Hillary K. Sigei, in a statement shared on Thursday, July 2, 2026, said that the victims were a seven-year-old child and six-year-old twins who were unable to escape after the fire broke out.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of three innocent children, a 7-year-old and two 6-year-old twins who lost their lives after a fire consumed the kitchen where they were sleeping at Kimatisio Village, Nyongores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency,” Sigei said.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family, relatives, friends, and the entire Kimatisio community during this painful and unimaginable time. No words can truly ease the pain of losing young lives in such a tragic manner.”

The tragic incident has left the family, neighbours and the wider Kimatisio community in shock as they come to terms with the devastating loss.
Support to the victims’ family
The senator has assured the bereaved family that they will not face the difficult period alone, pledging support as they navigate the painful process of mourning.
Additionally, Sigei condoled with the bereaved family, describing the deaths as heartbreaking.
He noted that the deaths had not only affected the immediate family but had also cast a cloud of sorrow over the entire Chepalungu constituency as residents struggled to come to terms with the loss of three children whose lives were cut short.

In the condolence message, he further said that he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended his sympathies to the family, relatives, friends and the entire Kimatisio community.
“To the grieving family, we stand with you in this moment of immense grief and sorrow, and we will support you as you come to terms with this painful loss. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace, and may the souls of the departed children rest in eternal peace,” he said.
