Blackout to affect parts of 5 counties on Sunday, February 8

Parts of five counties will experience a power outage on Sunday, February 8, 2026, as Kenya Power carries out planned maintenance works.

The utility company says the interruption will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in all the affected areas. In a notice on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the company says the blackout is necessary to allow maintenance and system improvement works.

“Power Maintenance Notice”, the company states, adding that the outage will affect specific regions and estates across the country.

Kenya Power has listed Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Embu and Kilifi counties as the areas that will be affected during the planned exercise. Customers within the listed zones are advised to plan accordingly during the outage period.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi County, the blackout will affect parts of Mombasa Road and Likoni Road. According to KPLC, the outage will take place on Sunday, 08.02.2026, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

The affected areas include Balozi Estate, Express Kenya, Engineering Development, Joakim Estate, Tile & Carpet, Parkside Towers and Panari Hotel. Other areas listed are Embassy Court 1 and 2, Popote Wireless, Nyanza Petroleum and Diamond Estate.

Additional locations include East African Spectre, Vita Foam, part of Road C, Red Cross, Nakumatt Head Office, Odds & Ends, Caltex Mombasa Road, Vision House and adjacent customers.

Trans Nzoia County

In Trans Nzoia County, KPLC says the outage will affect parts of Kitale town. The blackout will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

“Area: Kitale CBD,” the notice states, adding that Kitale CBD and adjacent customers will be without power during the maintenance period.

Kisumu County

Parts of Kisumu County will also be affected, with KPLC listing Kisumu Concrete and the surrounding areas. The outage is scheduled between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

Affected areas include Simbi Village, Kapsorok, Uzima Chicken, Chepseng’eny School, Kapsorok Market, Kisumu Concrete and Kapsorok Concrete, as well as adjacent customers.

Embu County

In Embu County, the blackout will affect parts of Embu town. KPLC says the interruption will occur from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sunday.

The listed areas include Old Naivas, Magunas, Wakogoto Building, Chrismit Hotel, Tenn Hospital, Meru Stage, Kwrimia Hotel and Beekay Hardware, alongside nearby customers.

Kilifi County

In Kilifi County, the outage will affect parts of Malindi. According to KPLC, areas around Malindi Airport and Kijiwetanga will be without power on Sunday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

The affected zones include Malindi Airport, Kwa Chocha, Msabaha, Baraka Chembe, Malindi High School, Kijiwetanga, Thalathameli, Akaye and adjacent customers.
