Activist Mulinge Muteti, known for interrupting court proceedings, charged with computer misuse
By Zipporah Ngwatu, December 15, 2025Mulinge Muteti, an activist well-known along the corridors of Nairobi courts, has been charged with publishing false information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018.
The court heard that Mulinge, who was arrested on December 12, 2025, wrote posts using his X account that are likely to cause violence among the members of the public.
According to the charge sheet, the activist asked the members of the public to use anything that they come across belonging to politicians, stating that all that they own belongs to Kenyans.
Further, the court papers state that activist Mulinge also told Kenyans to arm themselves and prepare for the coming uprising.
“Boniface Mulinge Muteti on December 6, 2025, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, while using your X account under the name Mulinge Muteti with the username @mulinge_muteti_, you published information, to wit, ‘If you come across anything owned by politicians, anza kuchukua.’ These people have never worked anywhere, innovated or invented anything. Everything they own was stolen from Kenyans and must be returned to Kenyans,” part of the charge sheet reads.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday, December 15, 2025, Muteti denied the charge lodged against him by the prosecution, and a plea of not guilty was entered.
The activist’s legal team pleaded with the court to grant him favourable bond terms, adding that he has been in police custody since December 12, 2025, and the police denied him bail.
The court was also informed that the accused is jobless, and he is not a flight risk, promising the court that he will be available whenever needed.
Magistrate Onyina freed the accused on a cash bail of Ksh15,000.
“The accused is granted cash bail of Ksh15,000 with one contact person. The matter will be mentioned on December 30, 2025,” Magistrate Onyina ruled.
Mulinge came to the limelight when he caused drama at the Milimani High Court on July 1, 2025, when he rose to his feet during blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia’s case proceedings, condemning extrajudicial killings in the country.
Muteti rose in full of anger after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) lawyer Christopher Marwa insisted in court that his client did not arrest the Kinoo blogger, and also, they were not aware of his whereabouts.
The activist, through his action and a loud voice, caused a halt of the proceedings for a moment where he vented by stating that the extrajudicial killings and disappearances of Kenyans must come to an end.

According to Muteti, the DCI lawyer was giving the court too many stories that were not adding up, adding that all that was required of them was to produce the blogger in court to ease the pain his family was going through due to his disappearance.
“We will not come here to listen to your stories. You have abducted someone; his family is crying, and you are here telling us stories. Enough is enough. Extrajudicial killings and disappearances must end now. We must stop this madness. We must stop these evil things you are doing to us,” activist Muteti stated in court.
On July 30, 2025, Muteti also disrupted a court proceeding on the matter of the killing of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang that was before Kibera High Court Lady Justice Diana Kavedza.
Muteti demanded the arrest of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat, who, according to police reports, had lodged a complaint against blogger Ojwang before he met his death.
He was ordered by Justice Kavedza to apologise to the court over his actions and advised to use the right channel to raise his issues instead of interrupting court proceedings.
However, Muteti, on September 30, 2025, repeated the same during a bail ruling for the accused persons in the matter before the same court, and Judge Kavedza ordered the court orderlies to lock him up for disrupting court proceedings again.
