6 senior police officers in trouble over Nandi Hills pool table assault incident

The National Police Service (NPS) has taken immediate administrative action against six senior officers following a disturbing CCTV video from Nandi Hills.

The footage, filmed at a pool table venue, showed police officers assaulting young men while demanding their identification documents.

In a statement on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the NPS said the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) conducted an exhaustive investigation after the video emerged. The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, accepted the IAU’s recommendations and directed that immediate action be taken against the senior officers involved.

The identities of the six officers have not been publicly disclosed, but the NPS expressed that the steps taken reflect its commitment to accountability and professional conduct.

“Following the emergence of a disturbing CCTV video, later confirmed to have been filmed at a pool table venue in Nandi Hills, the National Police Service (NPS) immediately directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to conduct an exhaustive investigation,” a part of the statement reads.

The CCTV footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows at least 10 police officers from Nandi Hills Police Station storming a room with two pool tables around 11:51 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2026.

Armed with guns and rungus, the officers order the young men to lie flat on the ground before violently assaulting them. The video depicts officers questioning why the victims were out late at night while repeatedly striking them.

During the assault, the officers are seen instructing the youths to produce their identification documents and place them in their mouths as they continue beating them. The attack lasts several minutes, after which the officers leave, instructing the victims to remain on the ground, sparking uproar, with leaders such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino demanding action.

“This is an integral and cardinal obligation that must be discharged with professionalism and responsibility at all times.”

“The NPS deeply regrets the incident at Nandi Hills and extends its sympathies to the victims. We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that all illegal acts are dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded.
