5-day weather forecast: Kenya Met warns of rain, cold conditions in several counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall and intermittent cold, cloudy conditions in several parts of the country in its five-day weather outlook covering Thursday, July 16, 2026, to Monday, July 20, 2026.

In the forecast issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the department said several counties are expected to receive rainfall, while residents in parts of the country should also prepare for cool and cloudy weather during the five days.

Rain forecast in several counties

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected in several counties across the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, western Kenya, and parts of eastern Kenya.

Counties likely to experience light rains or showers at various times include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and Nyamira.

The department noted that most of the rainfall is expected during the afternoon and evening hours, although some areas could receive morning showers.

Cool, cloudy conditions expected

The Kenya Meteorological Department also forecast intermittent cool and cloudy conditions in parts of Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kwale and Nairobi counties.

Residents in these areas have been advised to prepare for chilly mornings and occasional cloudy conditions throughout the forecast period.

For Nairobi County, the forecast indicates cloudy to sunny intervals during the mornings on most days, with generally sunny afternoons.

Light showers are expected on Sunday night, while temperatures will range between a minimum of 11°C to 15°C and a maximum of 22°C to 25°C.

Despite the expected rainfall in many regions, northern Kenya will continue to experience high temperatures.

Mandera is forecast to record the highest daytime temperatures of up to 36°C on Thursday and Friday. Garissa, Wajir and Turkana are also expected to remain hot, with maximum temperatures ranging between 33°C and 36°C.

Coastal counties to receive showers

Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi are expected to experience occasional light morning showers on some days before giving way to sunny intervals in the afternoon.

Temperatures in the coastal region are expected to remain warm, with daytime highs ranging between 26°C and 31°C.
