By , July 10, 2026

Thousands of teachers who participated in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) have been eagerly awaiting payment of their examiner allowances.

After months of uncertainty and repeated complaints over delayed payments, the government has confirmed that the outstanding balances have now been disbursed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), bringing relief to teachers who took part in the national assessment.

Here is everything teachers need to know about the 2025 KJSEA examiner allowance.

Who qualifies for the allowance?

The allowance is paid to teachers and education professionals contracted by KNEC to mark the 2025 KJSEA examination.

Only examiners officially recruited and assigned by KNEC are eligible for the payment after successfully completing the marking exercise and meeting the council’s requirements.

Payment process

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, announced that KNEC had disbursed the balance of the marking allowances to examiners’ respective bank accounts after the National Treasury released Ksh1.5 billion to clear the outstanding balances.

“We are pleased to inform all examiners who participated in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination that the balance of their marking allowances has been disbursed to their respective accounts by the Kenya National Examinations Council,” Ogamba said.

According to the Ministry of Education, the funds were released by the National Treasury on July 7, paving the way for KNEC to complete the payments.

“This disbursement follows the receipt of Ksh. 1.5 billion from the National Treasury on 7th July, 2026, being the allocation for clearing the balance,” he added.

What if you have not been paid?

Teachers who have not received their 2025 KJSEA examiner allowances should first confirm that the bank account details submitted to KNEC are correct and check with their bank to determine whether the payment has been processed.

If the allowance is still outstanding, they should contact KNEC through the official examiner support channels for clarification and ensure they completed all the required marking procedures and documentation.

In some cases, payments may be delayed due to verification processes or be released in batches.

With the government confirming the release of the outstanding 2025 KJSEA examiner allowances, eligible examiners should receive their payments through the bank accounts registered with KNEC.

Teachers who experience delays are encouraged to verify their payment details and seek clarification through official KNEC channels.
