OpenAI responds after ChatGPT users experience image generation glitch

OpenAI has responded after some ChatGPT users reported problems generating images, saying its team is working to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
The company also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the problem in a post on X on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The update came after users experienced difficulties creating images through ChatGPT. OpenAI acknowledged the issue and said it was already working on a solution to restore normal service.
“We know that a lot of you are having issues generating images in ChatGPT, and we’re working fast to fix it. Sorry about that,” ChatGPT said.
The statement confirmed that the company is aware of the problem affecting image generation. OpenAI did not provide more details about the cause but assured users that work was underway to resolve it.
Services return after outage
The latest image generation issue comes shortly after OpenAI restored its services following a global outage that affected users in different parts of the world. The earlier disruption affected access to ChatGPT and other OpenAI services before systems were brought back online.

After the earlier outage, OpenAI confirmed that its services had returned to normal. Its system status page later showed that its platforms were operating normally and that the company was not aware of any ongoing system-wide problems.
The previous outage had made it difficult for some users to access ChatGPT. Others were unable to sign in, open previous conversations or start new chats while the disruption was ongoing.

OpenAI’s latest system report showed that its major services had resumed normal operations after the outage. ChatGPT, APIs, Codex, FedRAMP and the Ads Platform were all listed as operational once the issue had been resolved.
The earlier disruption affected people who use ChatGPT for different tasks, including writing, research, coding, business support and everyday work. Reports came from several regions, showing that the outage was not limited to one country or one internet provider.
