ChatGPT restored following global outage

The company’s status page now shows that OpenAI is “fully operational” and that it is not aware of any issues affecting its systems.
The outage came after OpenAI announced disruptions affecting its services, following reports from users who were unable to access ChatGPT, log in, load conversations or start new chats.
OpenAI’s latest system report shows that all major services have since returned to normal operations, with ChatGPT, APIs, Codex, FedRAMP and the Ads Platform listed as operational.
Users report problems
The outage earlier on Saturday, July 25, 2026, caused disruptions for users who depend on ChatGPT for writing, research, coding, business support and everyday tasks.
Reports of problems emerged from multiple regions, suggesting the issue was not limited to a single country or internet provider.
Some users experienced error messages when attempting to access the platform, while others reported difficulties opening previous chat histories or creating new conversations.
The disruption also affected developers and businesses that rely on OpenAI’s API to integrate artificial intelligence features into their applications.
OpenAI acknowledged the issue during the incident, saying it had identified the problem and applied mitigation measures while monitoring the recovery process.
“We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovery,” the company said in an update.
The company, however, did not immediately reveal the technical cause behind the outage.
Services restored
According to OpenAI’s status page, ChatGPT is now operational with 99.66 per cent uptime across its components.
The OpenAI API, which allows developers and businesses to use artificial intelligence features within their platforms, is also running normally with 99.93 per cent uptime.
Codex, the company’s coding-focused service, is reporting 99.98 per cent uptime, while FedRAMP services remain fully operational with 100 per cent uptime.
The Ads Platform is also listed as operational after the earlier disruption.
AI reliance grows
The outage highlighted the growing dependence on artificial intelligence platforms as more individuals, companies and institutions use tools such as ChatGPT for daily activities.
From drafting documents and conducting research to software development and customer support, AI services have become part of many users’ regular workflows.
The disruption showed how even short interruptions can affect millions of people who have incorporated AI tools into their professional and personal routines.
OpenAI has not released further details on what caused the outage but has confirmed that its systems are currently stable.
