How to contact Kenya Power if your area experiences unscheduled blackout
By Ascah Mwango, July 12, 2026Kenya Power usually gives advance notice of areas scheduled to be affected by planned power interruptions. However, unscheduled blackouts can still occur due to unexpected faults or emergencies.
An unexpected power outage can disrupt homes, businesses and essential services, especially when it occurs without prior notice.
To help customers report such incidents and receive updates quickly, Kenya Power has provided several official channels through which consumers can seek assistance whenever their area experiences an unscheduled blackout.
1. Call the Kenya Power contact centre
Customers can report outages or seek assistance by calling Kenya Power’s customer care lines:
97771 (toll-free)
0703 070 707
0732 170 170
Customer service representatives can help verify whether the outage is part of an ongoing fault, scheduled maintenance or another technical issue.
2. Report via WhatsApp
Customers can also contact Kenya Power through its official WhatsApp service by sending a message to 0745 777 777.
The platform allows users to report outages, make inquiries and access selected self-service options.
3. Use social media
Kenya Power responds to customer inquiries through its verified social media accounts:
X (formerly Twitter): @KenyaPower_Care
Facebook: Kenya Power Care
When reporting an outage, customers are advised to include their account number, meter number, telephone number and precise location to help speed up assistance.
4. Use the Kenya Power self-service portal
Customers can also access various services through Kenya Power’s online self-service platforms, where they can report faults, monitor service requests and access other electricity services.
To enable Kenya Power to respond quickly, customers should have the following details ready:
i. Account number or meter number
ii. Registered phone number
iii. Exact location, including estate, road or nearby landmark
iv. A brief description of the outage
v. Check whether the outage is scheduled
Before reporting an outage, customers are encouraged to confirm whether it is part of Kenya Power’s scheduled maintenance programme.
The utility regularly publishes planned power interruption notices on its official website and social media platforms to notify customers in advance.
If there is no scheduled maintenance notice affecting your area, the outage may be due to a fault on the electricity network, damaged infrastructure, bad weather or other technical challenges.
Kenya Power advises customers to use only its official communication channels when reporting outages and to avoid sharing personal account information on unverified platforms to protect themselves from fraud.
