Didmus Barasa claims he will earn a Guinness World Records entry in 3 months
By Valerian Khakayi, July 9, 2026Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has claimed that he is on course to earn a place in the Guinness World Records within the next three months, citing what he described as his achievements in transforming infrastructure in his constituency.
Speaking during an interview, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with media personality Oga Obinna, Barasa said he believes his development record, particularly in the education sector, is unmatched and deserves global recognition.
“In the next three months I would enter the Guinness Book of Records; that Kimilili constituency is the only constituency in the whole world that where a member of parliament elected for two terms has built all primary schools. None of them have old buildings that were built before I became a member of parliament,” Barasa claimed.
According to Barasa, he has completed about 92 per cent of the project and expects to finish the remaining work within the next year.
“I am at 92 per cent with a budget of one year to go and in that budget I only require half of it,” he added.

His popularity in Kilimili
The lawmaker also said he has remained popular among his constituents since he was first elected in 2017, attributing the support to fulfilling the promises he made during his campaigns.
“Since I was elected in 2017, I have never been unpopular even for two hours; I have maintained my popularity up-to-date,” Barasa added.
Barasa argued that elected leaders often lose public support after making unpopular decisions but maintained that this had not been his experience.
“You can make something that your people are not happy with, and then you become unpopular, but I am thankful to God and the people of Kimilili that since they put me to where Iam today, I have never been unpopular; I have never struggled with popularity in my constituency,” he said.

Reasons for his popularity
The MP further claimed that he completed the promises contained in his election manifesto a year ago, including eliminating grass-thatched classrooms across the constituency.
“I have lived up to the expectation; I finished my manifesto one year ago,” he stated.
Additionally, Barasa added that, besides his constitutional duties as a Member of Parliament, he has undertaken additional community projects out of what he described as his social responsibility to the people of Kimilili.
“My manifesto was to remove grass-thatched houses, which I did in my first five years,” Barasa said.
“I have two responsibilities, one which is under the constitution and the other one which I had with the people of Kimilili, which is not written. Some of the things I have done are part of my social responsibility as their leader.”
The MP did not specify the category or record under which he expects to qualify for recognition by the Guinness World Records.
