When you badly need to finally rush back to your rural home and enjoy the happy laughter with friends, family and extended relatives but the thought of getting personal space bothers you, this is for you as we will be exploring 5 types of tents that could solve the problem of not having a house.

While laughter and merrymaking may endure during the day, the necessity of finding that personal space to finally wind down your day and rest from all the activities and meeting new people can never be overstated.

In this piece, we explore five tents which will not only give you that privacy at night and save you from the bickering that comes with sharing rooms but will also safely store your important luggage and personal effects.

Dome tent

The first idea which comes to mind is the dome tent which is usually commonplace in most camping sites in Kenya and elsewhere around the world.

This type of tent is among the easiest to set up and can accommodate two people at any given time, depending on its size.

Assuming that you are at home alone or with your significant other, this could be your first go-to tent. As long as you ensure that you set the tent on flat ground free from gravel and water bodies, you can be sure of a good night’s sleep throughout your holiday season.

When in doubt of the stability of the tent or its ability to withstand inclement weather, you should use guy lines; attaching them to the loops on the sides of the tent and hammering the ends to the ground at various angles.

Tunnel tent

For more people, you could consider the tunnel tent because it offers more camping space compared to the dome camp. Setting this type of tent is also significantly easier than the others as it only requires aligning the poles across it and ensuring that the guy lines are appropriately attached.

The tunnel tent has only one drawback and that is it is more prone to be affected by gusts of winds. However, if wherever you call home lacks the kind of winds that could carry and sweep away a tent, then it is a great pick.

Equally of note is that the tunnel tent has to be installed in a soft place where you can easily hook your guy lines and hammer them firmly on the ground for that extra support due to their sheer size and shape.

They offer extra room, which could act as the main sleeping area, and pockets where you could store your other luggage, clothes, or camping gear.

Geodesic tent

The geodesic tent will have the benefits of the dome tent and the tunnel tent as well. This type of tent also has the main advantage of having a sturdier structure that can withstand the harshest weather.

The geodesic tent has a lot more poles running through it, thereby offering more security from external forces. The poles of the geodesic tent intercross many times along the structure to form triangle shapes.

A disadvantage of this tent is that it requires more space to carry due to its many poles; but once set up, it is a near-failsafe way to spend time in your rural home when you do not have a house or if you are just looking for that extra private space for yourself and close family.

Multi-room tent

Of all the tents listed, the multi-room tent is probably the best one if you are looking for extra fun during the holiday with your significant other and kids. With this tent, you are sure to enjoy the outdoorsy feeling in the company of your kids without the need for having a house.

This tent provides multiple rooms just as its name suggests and is ideal for housing more people without feeling crowded. Additionally, multi-room tents are usually of sturdier build and offer more natural light and air due to the many windows and doors that are designed for this type of tent.

You could actually come over with a complete family and carry along your pets and still have rooms for everyone including a kitchen to fix a plate when the need arises.

Backpacking tent

If you are, however, alone and want to get the outdoorsy experience without breaking the bank, the backpacking tent would be ideal for you during the December holidays.

Apart from the fact that it is the most compact of all the tents, setting it up is equally easier as it does not have the long pipes seen in the geodesic and multiple-room tents.

This type of tent is easier to carry and move around with and is ideal for environments with flat surfaces and smoother grounds for additional support using guy lines.

With any of these tents, you could drive away the fear of going back upcountry and enjoying yourself just because you do not have a house.
