‘You are not Kenyan’ – Nyako reacts after son says ‘Wantam’ during her TikTok live
By Steve Ireri, March 15, 2026Germany-based Kenyan TikToker Nyako has found herself explaining Kenyan political slang after her son uttered the word ‘Wantam’ to her thousands of viewers.
During the live stream on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Nyako was interacting with fans when she casually spoke about her son’s appearance, noting that he naturally has very beautiful hair while she herself does not have much hair on her head.
“Robin has very beautiful hair naturally, but I don’t even have much hair on my head,” Nyako said during the live.
Moments later, her son Robin, who was strolling nearby, drew attention to a comment left by a viewer in the live chat.
According to Robin, someone watching the stream had written the word ‘Wantam’, prompting him to ask his mother what the term meant.
“Someone commented on the live and said, ‘Wantam.’ What does it mean?” Robin said.
Nyako initially told him she did not know the meaning of the word. However, Robin suggested that he could quickly search for its meaning on the internet.
“I don’t know what it means,” Nyako said.
“Well, if you don’t know what it means, then let me look it up on the internet and see what it means,” Robin added.
Before he could do so, Nyako stopped him and decided to explain the term herself.
She told him that ‘Wantam’ is a political expression used by some Kenyans to refer to the current presidency and the idea that the sitting president should serve only one term.
“No, actually, don’t look it up. Let me just tell you. ‘Wantam’ refers to the sitting president. It is a term people use when referring to his regime because they want to remove him from office,” Nyako said.

While explaining the phrase, Nyako advised her son not to repeat the word during the live session. She reminded him that he is not Kenyan and therefore should not involve himself in Kenyan political matters.
“But don’t say that word on the live. You are not Kenyan, which means you cannot participate in their elections,” she said.
Nyako went on to clarify that although Robin has a connection to Kenya through her, his nationality is different.
She explained that while she is Kenyan, his father is German, meaning his nationality is not Kenyan even though he has Kenyan roots from his mother’s side.
“The president they use that term for is William Ruto. You cannot participate in their elections because you are not Kenyan. Yes, you come from Kenya because I am your mother and I am Kenyan, but your nationality is not Kenyan,” she said.
During the conversation, Nyako also shared details about Robin’s family background, revealing that his grandmother was Romanian while his grandfather is Austrian. She added that the grandmother passed away last year after battling cancer.
Nyako further told her son that she hopes to take him to Kenya in the future, possibly during the summer, if she is able to raise enough money for the trip.
“I will take you to Kenya, maybe in the summer. If I get the money, we will go in the summer. Your father’s nationality is German, your grandmother was Romanian, and your grandfather is Austrian. Your grandmother died last year; we lost her to cancer,” she said.
