Celebrated Kenyan musician Wahu Kagwi has re-recorded her hit song Sweet Love, over 10 years after she first released it.

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the singer shared that the new version comes with a few changes while still keeping the message of the original song. She explained that the re-recording is meant to honour the journey she has gone through over the years.

“I wrote Sweet Love when I was pregnant with my first baby… in a season full of hope and wonder,” Wahu said.

The singer explained that the song now carries a deeper meaning for her because of the experiences she has had as a mother. She said the new version reflects growth, memories and appreciation for the different stages of womanhood. According to Wahu, the song still tells the same story even with the fresh touches added.

“Years later, I’ve re-recorded it with a few new touches — not to change the story, but to honour it… and appreciate the journey of motherhood all these years later,” she explained.

Wahu said the re-recorded song is dedicated to women in different stages of life. She explained that the message is for mothers, daughters and women who continue to grow and change through different seasons. The musician noted that the song now feels more personal to her years after first releasing it.

“This one is for the mothers, the daughters, the women we used to be… and the women we are still becoming,” Wahu said.

The singer earlier shared a special Mother’s Day message as she reflected on her own mother. Wahu spoke about watching her mother raise five children while also working and caring for the family. She explained that she now understands the sacrifices her mother made during those years.

“This has been a very reflective week for me. Thinking about how it was for mum, raising 5 children, working in the bank and somehow still finding time to take care of herself,” Wahu said.

Wahu also praised her mother for always being present in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She explained that even now, her mother still checks on the family, prays for them and visits them regularly. The singer ended her message by wishing her mother more years and a happy Mother’s Day.
