Wahu pens emotional tribute on father’s 14th death anniversary
Veteran Kenyan musician Wahu Kagwi has shared an emotional tribute in memory of her father as she marked 14 years since his passing.
In a heartfelt message shared on her official Instagram account on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Wahu reflected on how the day always brings deep emotions, saying writing the tribute was not easy.
She revealed that whenever she misses her father, she wears one of his sweaters, which she once took from his wardrobe, noting that it makes her feel close to him.
“Dear Dad. Today marks 14 years since you gained your heavenly wings. This day always hits differently. I’m so emotional writing this. Whenever I miss you , I wear your sweater…you know, the one I stole from your wardrobe,” Wahu wrote.
“It makes me feel close to you. I miss you so much dad.”
The musician also fondly recalled the last Christmas they spent together, describing it as a moment she continues to cherish.
She remembered her father’s light-hearted humour, including his impatience as he waited for nyama choma, a memory that still makes her smile.

“I’m so glad I got to spend that last Christmas with you. I remember you wondering why the nyama choma was taking so long,” she wrote.
The mother of three further shared a touching moment when she told her father she was expecting her daughter, Nyakio
According to Wahu, he thanked God for the pregnancy and revealed that he and her mother had been praying for it.
“I remember you wondering why the nyama choma was taking so long. I remember telling you that I was carrying my Nyakio. I remember you thanking God for her and saying “Your mum and I have been praying for this” You always prayed for all of us, Dad. Daily without fail,” Wahu said.
Prayerful
She described her father as a deeply prayerful man who consistently prayed over his family. Wahu recalled how he would pray over their cars, asking God to protect them from accidents and premature death.
“You prayed over our cars, proclaiming that they would never cause pain or premature death,” she added.
She also highlighted a powerful moment when he prayed throughout the night for her sister Charity while she was in the ICU, firmly believing that she would recover.
In addition, Wahu expressed gratitude that her father’s prayers were answered, noting that Charity is now healthy and doing great things with her life.
She said she feels truly honoured to be his child, adding that he took pride in his children’s achievements and often celebrated them with words of encouragement.
“You prayed all night for Charity when she was in ICU, telling God that ‘this child has honoured me and in accordance with your word her days on earth must be long” you pleaded with God all night, and truly @charity_kagwi is here with us, healthy and doing amazing things with her life,” Wahu noted.
“Dad… I’m truly honoured to be your child. All 5 of us are.”
Wahu further said she carries countless memories, lessons, and acts of love from her father, many of which she has chosen to keep in her private diary.
“Whenever any of us did something remarkable, you would say, ‘That’s the stuff Kagwis are made of! Thats the stuff!” Lol. I could go on and on about you Dad…I think the rest i’ll just write down in my private diary,” she stated.
“Its too much. Too many amazing memories, lessons and acts of love. Continue resting in peace papa. I love you always.”
