Kenyan multi-talented musicians Ian Okwemba Oure, aka Iyanii, and Benson Mutua Muia, alias Bensoul, are making waves with their latest hit song dubbed ‘Utaambia Nini Watu’, a track that dives deep into the love mistakes many Gen Zers make in relationships.

The song combines catchy melodies with relatable lyrics, resonating strongly with young listeners navigating love, heartbreak, and life after breakups.

In the song, Iyanii reflects on some of the things young people do while in love, including wearing matching outfits, posting their lovely photos of themselves together on social media and vowing not to leave each other.

Additionally, he also highlighted misunderstandings young lovers have with their friends after they have pointed out red flags in their relationship.

Mistakes they make

The song also highlights common mistakes people make while dating, such as cutting off their friends.

However, after a messy breakup, they often try to reconnect with those same friends they had distanced themselves from.

Marafiki wako ulitutoka, after mpenzi umemupata ona sasa amekuwacha umerudi kututafuta.”

Life after a break-up

Bensoul, on the other hand, adds perspective on life after a breakup, painting a vivid picture of regret and heartbreak

Na si niwewe nilikuona kwa matatu ukishukishwa kwani dinga ulirudisha, ukashukishiwa maisha,” Bensoul sang.

Ulidhani umeomoka ukabadilisha numbe, machozi utalia ya mamba .Ulitaka Visa ukapata ni visanga, kazi kwisha, sasa maybe ukuwe makanga.

He also highlighted how cutting off friends during a relationship can leave them feeling isolated, even during their lovey-dovey moments

Kuna time ulijidai sasa form zako hatuzidai,” Bensoul sang.

Through these candid lyrics, the duo addresses the pitfalls of love, miscommunication, and the drama that often follows breakups, as well as emphasising honesty, respect, and the importance of learning from past mistakes, making it more than just a catchy song; it serves as a guide to navigating modern relationships.

Overall, by blending relatable storytelling with melodic beats, Utaambia Nini Watu offers both entertainment and valuable lessons for young listeners, particularly Gen Z.
