TikToker Becky Akinyi defends choice to remain childfree after online backlash

TikTok content creator Becky Akinyi has come out to defend herself after facing online backlash over remarks she made about pregnancy, parenthood, and disability in a video explaining why she does not want children.

In a TikTok post on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Akinyi said pregnancy comes with many uncertainties, noting that a woman does not know what she is carrying until after medical checks and birth.

“The moment you’re pregnant, you don’t know what you’re carrying. You don’t know whether it’s a boy or a girl. You have to go check with the doctor,” she said.

The content creator came under fire after the video circulated online, with some viewers accusing her of being insensitive toward parents of children living with disabilities. Akinyi maintained that she was speaking about her personal fears and reasons for choosing a childfree life.

Pregnancy uncertainty concerns

Akinyi said children can be born in different conditions and that disability can happen at birth or later in life through sickness or other circumstances. She emphasised that disability should never be used as an insult.

“Disability comes in different ways. You can even be disabled when you’re an adult. Sickness can come from nowhere and hit you,” she said.

She maintained that her remarks were misunderstood, insisting that she was not attacking parents raising children with disabilities but explaining her own fears and limits.

No desire for children

Akinyi said she does not want children at all and is not ready for the responsibility that comes with raising a child. She explained that parenting requires time, emotional strength and resources that she does not have.

“I don’t want kids. I’m not ready for anything called a child,” she said.

The TikToker also spoke about her personal struggles, saying she is still working on herself and has not yet reached a place where she can care for another person.

She maintained that choosing not to have children is her personal decision and said she should not be judged for setting boundaries about her life.
