This must stop!: Mosiria takes firm stand against sewage dumping
By Ascah Mwango, May 6, 2026Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has once again taken a firm stance against environmental pollution, warning offenders to surrender themselves as the county intensifies its crackdown on illegal dumping and raw sewage discharge in Nairobi.
In a statement shared via his Instagram on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Mosiria condemned what he described as blatant disregard for environmental laws, stressing that those responsible will not be spared.
“This is impunity and must be stopped at all costs. I call upon those responsible to surrender themselves to the nearest police station or county environmental offices. Discharging raw sewage into the environment is unacceptable and a serious violation of public health and environmental standards,” Mosiria stated.
His remarks come amid renewed efforts by Nairobi County to tighten enforcement on waste management, with officials increasing inspections and taking action against individuals and companies accused of dumping waste in unauthorised areas. The county has been particularly strict on environmental offenders, with warnings that licenses for waste service providers risk being revoked if they are found breaking regulations.
In previous enforcement messages, Mosiria has maintained that the county will not tolerate illegal dumping, insisting that accountability must start at every level, from households to private contractors handling waste.
“Any service provider found dumping waste in unauthorised areas will have their license revoked immediately without their consent,” Mosiria warned in earlier directives aimed at cleaning up Nairobi’s waste management sector.

Over the past months, Nairobi County has stepped up operations targeting illegal dumping hotspots, with enforcement teams conducting surprise raids, sealing off unauthorised dumping sites, and pursuing compliance from businesses and residents. The campaign has also included public sensitisation efforts aimed at encouraging proper waste disposal and protecting public health.
Mosiria has also been vocal on issues such as littering and theft of garbage bins, problems that have continued to undermine cleanliness efforts in several estates. The county has even introduced measures encouraging public reporting of offenders as part of its broader enforcement strategy.
The latest warning over raw sewage discharge highlights growing concern over urban sanitation challenges in Nairobi, where improper waste disposal has been linked to environmental pollution, clogged drainage systems, and increased health risks, especially during rainy seasons.
