Tedd Josiah explains why Mother’s Day holds deep meaning in his life
By Paulette Mboga, May 6, 2026Veteran Kenyan music producer and creative entrepreneur Edmond Josiah, widely known as Tedd Josiah, has explained why Mother’s Day holds deep meaning in his life, sharing his experience as a single father after losing his wife shortly after the birth of their child.
He said the journey forced him to take on both parental roles from an early stage.
“I think God saw it fit for me to understand how to become a mother. By throwing me in the deep end,” Tedd Josiah said on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
He explained that his life changed when he was left to care for his daughter alone. He said the situation required him to quickly adjust and learn responsibilities he had not prepared for. Josiah added that raising his child became his main focus despite the challenges.
“My journey into motherhood started with a 3-month-old,” he said.
He further shared that the early days were marked by serious financial struggles. He explained that he did not have enough money to support basic needs for the child. Josiah said the situation pushed him to keep going despite the pressure.
“Zero money for formula, zero money for diapers and getting nearly evicted and auctioned out of my own home,” Tedd Josiah said.
Journey shaped by loss and responsibility
He explained that these experiences shaped how he views Mother’s Day each year. He said the day reminds him of the role he had to take up after his loss. Josiah added that it is a time he believes should be marked with importance.

“That is why for me every single year, Mother’s Day is of utmost importance that we celebrate it properly,” he said.
Josiah had earlier opened up about the moment he lost his wife, Reginah Katar. He explained that the loss came unexpectedly just months after they welcomed their child. He said the experience left him with deep grief and new responsibilities.
“Nilipata mrembo fulani nikasettle na yeye, na tukapata mtoto, nilikuwa natarajia huyo mtoto na nilikuwa nataka huyo mtoto vibaya sana,” Tedd Josiah said.
He explained that he had been looking forward to building a family, but the plan changed suddenly when his partner fell ill. Josiah added that her death left him to raise their child on his own.
“Ilifika three months mama ya mtoto akakufa nikawachwa na mtoto,” he said.
