‘President wetu, we really love you’ – Kisumu woman tells Ruto
By Dan Kauna, September 13, 2026‘President Wetu, we really love you,’ a local Woman’s Representative declared to President William Ruto on September 13, 2026, setting a warm tone as grassroots leaders in Kisumu welcomed the Head of State to Nyanza.
Speaking on behalf of local women’s groups during Ruto’s development tour of the region, she assured him of solid political backing from the western counties.
Full backing for broad-based government
Addressing the gathering from the main stage, the speaker highlighted the administration’s focus on economic empowerment as the main reason for her support, her remarks drawing cheers from hundreds of delegates wearing bright yellow and orange caps across the venue.
“His Excellency the President, we are happy to have you around, and we want to appreciate your coming,” she told the crowd before addressing the President directly.
“Our President, this issue of empowering the women, eleza kabisa kabisa because I want to tell you, our President, the votes from wakina mama, you can be 100 per cent sure that you will get them,” she said.
She added that supporting women directly boosts entire households across the region: “That thing will reach the hearths, wababa watakula, watoto watakula. Women power! Broad-based power! Sasa sisi kama wakina mama wa Nyanza tunasema tuko ndani, ndani, ndani zaidi ya broad-based.”
Call for female running mate
Moving past political support, the woman raised economic challenges plaguing the community, asking the president to ensure young people in Nyanza get opportunities in national recruitment drives.
“When it comes to employment, remember our sons and daughters, Bwana President,” she urged.
Turning to political arrangements ahead of the 2027 General Election, she made a direct pitch asking President Ruto to select a woman as his running mate.
“I hear people talk about persons coming to deputise you,” she stated as supporters cheered. “I know the way you love women. If there is anything to go by, pick a woman to be your Deputy President.”
She finished her speech with a blessing, reaffirming their readiness for the next election: “Mungu akulinde Bwana President, we are ready to vote for you for the second time.”
