Pastor Kanyari recalls being locked in police cell after domestic drama with Betty Bayo

Salvation Healing Ministry founder Pastor Victor Kanyari has opened up about a dramatic moment from his past relationship with his late ex-wife, Betty Bayo, revealing how a domestic disagreement once led to his arrest.

Speaking during his Sunday, May 24, 2026, service, Kanyari revealed that the incident happened years ago when Betty Bayo left their matrimonial home and returned to live with her parents.

According to the preacher, the situation angered him deeply, prompting him to follow her to her parents’ residence in an attempt to convince her to return home together with their children.

“I don’t remember exactly what I had done. Oh, I remember one time my late wife, Betty Bayo, left our home and went back to live at her parents’ place, and I became very angry. I went to their home and caused a lot of drama. I demanded that she return to my house together with the children, and I also insisted that all the things they had carried away should be brought back,” Kanyari said.

Kanyari admitted that emotions escalated during the confrontation, claiming he demanded that all items taken from their home also be returned.

He further disclosed that the altercation became chaotic enough to attract the attention of authorities after Betty Bayo reportedly contacted the area OCS.

“Betty later called the area OCS and reported that I had caused so much commotion that the neighbourhood was no longer peaceful. I was arrested and placed in a police cell,” he said.

The preacher revealed that police officers later arrested him and placed him in a cell for several hours following claims that he had caused disturbance and unrest within the neighbourhood.

However, despite the tension between them at the time, Kanyari narrated that Betty Bayo later intervened and secured his release from custody after approximately two hours.

“After about two hours, Betty came and I was released,” he shared.

Lessons from Kiambu food vendor

The televangelist went on to recall that immediately after being released, he was extremely hungry and asked Betty where they could eat before leaving the area.

He said they later found a small food hotel outside the Kiambu Police Station, where many customers were lined up despite the food vendor appearing untidy.

“I remember after she secured my release, I was very hungry and asked her where we could eat before leaving the area,” he said.

Using the incident as part of his sermon, Kanyari said the experience taught him that success in life is not always about hard work alone, but also about favour and grace from God.

“We found a small hotel outside Kiambu Police Station, and the woman preparing food there did not look very clean because she kept wiping sweat while cooking. Surprisingly, there were many people lined up waiting for the food, and I wondered why. But that is what favour is. Sometimes life is not just about hard work but also about the favour of God,” he added.
