Muhoozi explains why he blocked Larry Madowo on X
By Cynthia Lodite, January 23, 2026Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Uganda’s President’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has come out to explain his decision behind blocking Cable News Network (CNN) African correspondent Larry Madowo on X.
Muhoozi has described him using a Swahili word, msaliti, which translates to a person who is a traitor.
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Muhoozi revealed that he chose to block Larry on the grounds of being a traitor.
“I blocked @LarryMadowo for one simple reason. It’s best said in Kiswahili. He is a true Msaliti,” Muhoozi tweeted.

Larry Madowo reacts after Muhoozi blocks him
Muhoozi’s remarks closely follow a statement by Larry Madowo, who reacted to Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s decision to block his account on the social media platform X.
In a statement on his official X account, Madowo revealed that Muhoozi has since blocked him on the platform.
He shared an image showing that his account has since been blocked by that of Gen. Muhoozi, adding that the latter previous followed him.
“Muhoozi used to follow me, now he’s blocked me I wonder why,” he stated.
The move by Muhoozi came after the two were embroiled in a heated online exchange in the days that followed elections in Uganda.

Larry Madowo’s spat with Muhoozi
The spat which unfolded on Twitter was ignited by an alarming statement made by Muhoozi referencing the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party led by opposition figure Bobi Wine.
Madowo criticised Muhoozi’s statement, opining that the latter’s confidence and tone come from being associated with the long-serving Ugandan leader.
“Muhoozi, why are you bragging about killing Ugandans who support the opposition? Is it because you’re protected by your father, President Museveni?” Madowo asked.
Rather than responding to the concerns raised by the journalist, Muhoozi responded swiftly, using derogatory language to accuse the journalist of betraying Africa while seeking approval and praise from the West.
“Why don’t you call me by my name, Larry? How long will you kiss the Muzungu’s ASS in the USA pretending to represent us?”
The spat dragged on with Madowo referencing earlier statements in which Muhoozi vowed to extinguish the NUP.
“President Museveni’s son – and military chief – promises to ‘remove and extinguish’ Bobi Wine’s party after his father’s victory.”
