Mkamburi Chigogo calls out Tanzanian men for lame pick-up tactics at a club

Radio host Mkamburi Chigogo has criticised Tanzanian men for what she describes as weak and scripted pick-up attempts during a recent night out.

She shared her experience on Instagram on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, pointing out that the approach lacked creativity and felt staged.

“First of all, I want to shout out to Kenyan men because I was in Tanzania,” Mkamburi said.

“This guy, I think he spots me, he likes me, akaita mtu ake wa mkono. And it is at night, mark you.”

According to Mkamburi, the man handed her a note at the club that appeared carefully prepared in advance.

“The guy writes a whole note, so I don’t know if he has these notes for…like he writes these notes at home, and then when he gets to the club, he gets his people to start distributing them. I was like, y’all TZ men need to do better. Because what is this nonsense?” she posed.

The note and the approach

The note left by the man read: “Hi, Antony here, you are one beautiful girl, it would be great catching up sometime.”

He also included his phone number and signed it with XOXO.

Mkamburi reacted to the gesture with disbelief. “You cannot tell me…this…he probably has a lot of these notes for different huns,” she said.

After giving her the note, the man also offered to buy her a drink.

“He said, whatever you are drinkin,g just take. I don’t drink alcohol. I find this to be super lame,” Mkamburi added.

She described the whole encounter as unoriginal and lacking genuine effort. Mkamburi’s experience shows a common concern about scripted romantic gestures that fail to feel personal.

She contrasted the experience with dating culture in Kenya, implying that Tanzanian men could learn from more thoughtful approaches.

Relying on pre-written notes and generic gestures may come across as insincere. Mkamburi Chigogo’s experience serves as a reminder that women mostly love creativity and personal effort, which are often more appealing than pre-planned tactics.
