Karangu Muraya speaks amid reports he is the newest deadbeat dad in town
By David Nthua, January 19, 2026Gospel musician Karangu Muraya has refuted reports that he abandoned his children, saying he has been present in their lives and continues to support them.
Through his Facebook account on Sunday, January 18, 2026, Karangu explained that the week had been emotional after he received a call from his children saying they were not feeling well.
He said he went to see them, took them to hospital, and spent the entire day by their side.
“This was on Wednesday this week, when I received a call from my kids that they are not feeling well. I went there and took them to hospital. I spent the entire day with them,” he posted.

Karangu shares his side
In his message, Karangu revealed that his children had asked him to visit again on Sunday, prompting him to adjust his day.
He said he did not attend church because he wanted to spend time with them, adding that one of the children, Emmanuel, called him and told him he was ready.
“Sikuenda church leo na Emmanuel akanipigia simu akaniambia ako ready, nikaenda nika mpick na tukaenda,” he wrote.
Karangu also claimed he had already seen the online post accusing him of being a deadbeat dad and was not surprised it had come up.

He said he has kept quiet for the sake of his children, but it hurts to hear people say he threw them away.
“I have seen that post and I was expecting it,” he stated.
Do not involve kids
The gospel singer further opened up about his personal decision to give his family space, saying he was told they did not want marriage and he agreed to give them freedom without questioning where they go, what they do, or who they are with.
“Mimi mwenye mnaita fool, mliniambia hamtaki ndoa na niwapatie freedom na nikakubali,” he wrote.
Karangu added that he gave out his new house, which he said he had been building to sell, and continued paying household bills including water and electricity. He also claimed he still provides shopping for the home.
However, he alleged that despite his support, he has faced disrespect, including being called “kihii” (which means uncut man) in front of his children, something he said deeply affected him.

Karangu insisted he will keep looking after his children according to his ability, but pleaded with those involved to avoid dragging the children into adult disagreements.
“Msiiingize watoto wangu kwa hiyo madharau,” he appealed.
He shared the statement alongside photos of himself with the children in a car and an image of a house, as the debate continued online.
