I bring real transformation: Mosiria fires back at critics amid clout-chasing claims

By , March 27, 2026

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has fired back at critics questioning his methods, using one of his most viral success stories to make his case.

In a statement shared on his X account on Friday, March 27, 2026, Mosiria revisited the now-famous rescue of a man who had built a makeshift shelter on a tree along Jogoo Road.

“Wangapi wanakumbuka huyu jamaa? “Tree Man” the man I rescued from Jogoo Road, ambapo alikuwa anaishi kwa makeshift structure juu ya mti. Wale wanasema Mosiria anapenda clout chasing, hii ni clout chasing ama ni true transformation? From the streets to work! Nipe maoni majamaa !” Mosiria stated.

The post appeared to directly challenge those accusing him of chasing publicity, asking whether such efforts amount to clout chasing or real, visible change.

The Tree Man story first stunned Nairobi residents when images emerged of a man living on a tree, not for adventure, but survival. The unusual setup was reportedly his way of avoiding constant harassment, insecurity, and displacement from the streets below.

When Mosiria intervened, the situation shifted from shock value to something more meaningful.

The county official, working with well-wishers, helped relocate the man from the tree to proper housing. He was also supported with basic needs and later linked to job opportunities, giving him a path back to stability.

Follow-up updates shared months later showed that the man had managed to rebuild his life, securing work, settling into a more stable routine, and slowly regaining dignity.

Hands-on intervention

The “Tree Man” case is not an isolated incident.

Over the past year, he has built a reputation for hands-on interventions, personally engaging with vulnerable individuals on the streets and helping connect them to housing, rehabilitation, or employment opportunities.

Before his reassignment, Mosiria was widely known for his tough stance on illegal dumping and poor sanitation across Nairobi. His on-the-ground operations, often shared online, made him one of the most visible county officials in the city.

However, in November 2025, Governor Johnson Sakaja reshuffled his cabinet, moving Mosiria from the Environment docket to head Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.

In his current role, he now focuses on how Nairobi residents interact with county services, essentially becoming the bridge between City Hall and the public.

Still, not everyone is convinced by his style.

Mosiria has faced criticism online, with some accusing him of turning public service into content.
