‘I am a single father of 7′ – Melvin Alusa opens up on parenthood
By Valerian Khakayi, April 18, 2026Kenyan actor Melvin Alusa has opened up about his journey as a single father of seven, saying he wants to share his parenting experience with the public in a more personal and relatable way.
In a candid interview with a local radio station, Alusa spoke about his life away from the screen, saying that many people often ask him how he manages to raise his children while balancing his career in the entertainment industry.
“Mimi ni mzazi, mzazi wa watoto saba, mambo vile iko am a single parent,” Alusa said.
“So watu wengi huuliza, how do you manage? How do you do it?“
The actor noted that while many people know him from his artistic work, he now wants to show a different side of his life, his role as a father and the realities that come with it.
“Watu wanajua upande humwengine wa usanii lakini sasa hii upande yengine ya uzazi nataka kuiweka mbele ya watu na ni share safari yangu,” he added.
Reality show with his kids
Alusa revealed that he and his children have started working on a reality show titled The House of Alusa, which will focus on their family life, values, and day-to-day experiences.
He said the idea was developed after a family discussion on how best to document and share their journey.
“Tulika chini na watoto wangu tukaongea, why do we turn this situation into a show? Tutafanya reality show ‘the house of Alusa’,” he disclosed.
According to him, the show is already in production and is expected to premiere on YouTube by the end of April.
“We are still shooting, and by the end of April, it will be aired on YouTube,” Alusa stated.
Alusa further explained that the show will highlight not only the challenges of parenting but also the responsibilities and values he is trying to instil in his children.
He added that the project is also meant to encourage parents who may be struggling, reminding them not to give up regardless of their situation.
“Kuna ubeste na pia kuna ubaba. We are sharing all that, but the show is basically about sharing our values, responsibilities na pia kuona kana tunaweza encourage watu huko nje ya kwamba hii kitu ya uzazi once ushakuwa usihepe,” he added.
“Kama kuna mbaba mahali anajaribu na watu saba, huyo wako mmoja wawili umehepa tu.”
