‘Haikuwa rahisi’ – Director Ritchie shares his experience after filming Ninah of Wapendwa Muziki giving birth

Film director and digital content creator Richard Kamau, alias Director Ritchie, has shared his experience after filming gospel singer Nina Wambui, widely known as Ninah Mpendwa of the Wapendwa Muziki duo, as she gave birth to her first child.

Filming real life is never easy, and for Director Ritchie, documenting Ninah’s delivery proved to be one of the most emotionally challenging experiences of his career.

Taking to his official Instagram account on Monday, January 5, 2025, Ritchie disclosed that the difficulty was not technical; it was emotional.

He says the process involved someone he deeply knows and loves, and witnessing her go through pain while holding a camera was overwhelming

Filming haikuwa rahisi;respect to all mothers,” Ritchie said.

“Filming the whole process was hard for me because this is someone I know and love, and seeing them in pain was very difficult.”

Reasons for filming

Ritchie admits that hospitals are not places he is comfortable filming. In fact, he usually avoids them altogether. But this time was different.

According to him, the couple is more than just collaborators or clients to him; they are family.

“Me, I do not go to hospitals, but for Wapendwa, I said I have to be there for the support because they are family to me,” he disclosed.

Watching the video

After watching the final video, Ritchie says the emotions came rushing back. The experience, he says, felt so real that it transported him back into the delivery room, reliving every intense moment.

More than anything, it left him with a renewed sense of respect for women and mothers everywhere.

“Nimetoka kuwatch video ya Wapendwa Muziki guys, nime sweat, Nilikuwa na feel kama inahappen sahi sahi, you know I was there inside the theatre, and the experience was… respect to all mothers,” he added.

Delivery clip

On Monday, January 5, 2025, Ninah announced the birth of their baby boy. On the other hand, Mesh took to his Instagram to share a raw video of the delivery, revealing that Ninah gave birth naturally and not via C-section, as many had speculated.

In the video, he is seen together with her inside the delivery room, clad in a hospital gown and jumping in joy after the baby’s head emerged from Ninah’s cervix.

In the raw clip, Ninah, who has previously opened up about her fears regarding childbirth, is heard asking why the baby did not cry immediately after birth, letting out a huge sigh once the doctors helped it cry.

“Oh God, why am I not hearing the baby cry? Oh no, please,” Ninah said.

“Don’t worry, the baby is okay, and we are well. Thank God,” her husband, Mesh, said while comforting her.

While sharing the clip, Mesh noted that the whole process was not an easy one and expressed gratitude to God for making everything successful in the end.

“WE ARE LIVE | Finally the raw and uncut labour and delivery video of @babympendwa | We saw God on this one 😭😭,” he wrote.
