Governor Otuoma caught on camera kicking resident in ugly confrontation

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has found himself in the eye of the storm after a disturbing video showing him involved in an altercation during a public event surfaced.

The governor was distributing maize seeds within the county when the altercation happened, with the violent clash caught on camera and going viral.

In the undated video, Otuoma is seen handing over packets of maize seeds to residents who had lined up.

A man is seen jumping the queue and heading to where the governor was, ready to receive two packets of maize.

Otuoma was about to hand over the packets when he paused, perhaps in realisation of what had happened.

Governor’s kick

He then kicks the man while shouting at him to leave immediately.

Even after the man in question had left the queue, the governor could be seen and heard shouting at the top of his voice, telling him to leave.

In light of his position, the video sparked conversations online, with a focus on how elected and appointed leaders treat ordinary Kenyans.

Some noted that arrogance and violence caught in the video are a daily occurrence, only that few are caught on camera.

Others faulted the victim for irritating the governor by attempting to jump the queue and cause chaos in an otherwise peaceful and well-organised event.

This comes barely weeks after Public Service Principal Secretary Jane Kere Imbunya was caught on camera ejecting journalists from an event that she presided over.

Imbunya’s encounter with journalists

Imbunya was caught on camera telling journalists to remove their equipment at an event in Vihiga and threatened to remove it herself.

“Hey, cameramen, I am saying something here; there are too many,” the PS said while touching the microphones.

“In fact, I will remove these. Can I have these out? Come and help me,” Imbunya stated.

The PS alleged that the equipment was blocking the residents from seeing her as she addressed them and ordered their immediate removal before she could give her speech.

Notably, the video only shows three microphones, which had been positioned strategically for the event, with those in attendance able to see the PS as she engaged them.
