Gospel singer Jane Muthoni’s mum rubbishes claims she faked illness to get donations

Gospel singer Jane Muthoni’s mother has responded to claims that she feigned eye problems to solicit donations, insisting that her condition is real and that she struggles daily with partial blindness.

Speaking in a TikTok live hosted by Sarah Naomi on Friday, April 3, 2026, the singer’s mother explained that she personally requested funds from her children to seek medical treatment for her eyes, revealing that one eye is healthy while the other remains seriously impaired.

She noted that the problem is internal, not visible from the outside, which often leads to misunderstandings about her condition.

They are my children, and that is why I am speaking for myself: they lacked the money to take me for eye treatment. I asked to be given money so I could seek treatment. Even if it seems like I’m opening my eyes, one is fine and the other is sick. But when you look at me, you will see no problem with that eye because the outer part is fine; the inner part has the problem, and I can confirm that I see nothing with that eye,” she said.

The singer’s mother described how she struggles with basic daily activities, recounting that even while in hospital, she could not identify her food by sight.

She said that when meals were brought to her, she had to move her hands over the dishes to discern what she was eating, not because she could see, but because she had to know what it was before touching it.

She stressed that seeing her eyes open does not indicate that they are healthy and that her illness is genuine.

“Even when I was in the hospital eating, and they brought me food, I was asking if these were arrowroots or what because I could not see; I was just moving my hands, and I would rather not touch other people’s food. So, it’s not like I was asking because I could see, but because I wanted to know. Seeing my eyes open does not mean they are problem-free, she said.

She also noted that walking and moving around can be challenging, admitting that she sometimes loses balance because of her impaired vision. Living alone, she said, no one knows the full extent of her struggles at home, including how she sleeps or copes with her eye condition in private.

She explained that she experiences frequent bouts of sickness related to her eyes, which can leave her feeling unwell and physically vulnerable.

“And I cannot fake an illness; sometimes I get so sick, and I feel bad. Even the people who live around here know that sometimes I walk falling because I do not see where I walk. Let me say this: in this home, I am the one who sleeps here alone. No one knows how I sleep or whether my eyes have a problem,” she added.

The drama surrounding her condition began when popular Kikuyu YouTuber Chuma Moto visited the woman in Juja Farm, where she lives.
