‘Diamond has employed 500 youth’ – Majizzo urges Tanzanians to drop boycott calls
By Ascah Mwango, December 11, 2025Businessman and politician Majizzo (Idd Azizi) has defended Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz, urging the public not to boycott his music despite growing criticism linked to recent politics.
In a video shared on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Majizzo stated that young people were allowing their emotions to push them into extreme actions.
He described himself as an elder in the arts industry and apologised on behalf of the youths who have been attacking artistes online.

Majizzo warned that punishing an artiste has wider consequences. He referred to the case of musician Shilole, whose business was targeted during the backlash, saying such actions leave many young workers jobless.
He stressed that Diamond has played a major role in building Tanzania’s music industry and currently employs more than 500 young people. He asked Tanzanians to forgive what has angered them so that the creative sector can continue growing and providing work.
“Naamini wadogo wangu wanakosea. Wanateleza. Kuna wakati wanapitiliza. Mimi kama kaka, mshikadau wa sanaa. Nawaombea radhi kwa niaba yao.Adhabu utakayotoa ina madhara mengi makubwa.
Naomba radhi kwa yale yanayowakera, ili kiwanda kiendelee kuzalisha, kuleta ajira,” he said.
Loosely translated as;
“I believe my younger brothers make mistakes. They slip up. Sometimes they go too far. As an elder brother and a stakeholder in the arts, I apologise on their behalf. The punishment you want to impose has many serious consequences. And let’s agree, this punishment could also affect you, who is pushing this movement.
Because look at an artiste like Shilole we burned down her place, and we banned her music. Now tell me, how many young people lost their jobs at her restaurant? Someone like Diamond, yes, he can annoy us, but we cannot remove him from the industry. He has brought many people into the industry, he has helped many, he has employed more than 500 young people.
I apologise for whatever has upset you, so that the industry can continue producing and creating jobs.”

Backlash
His remarks come as some Tanzanian artistes are facing public backlash over their support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the October 29, 2025, general election. Musicians such as Diamond Platnumz, Ali Kiba, Nandy, Harmonize, Rayvanny and Zuchu were criticised by fans after appearing at campaign events, posting pro-government messages or showing open support for Suluhu.
Their involvement angered many voters who felt the election was unfair and that opposition candidates were blocked from participating.
Following the backlash, Diamond pulled down posts praising President Suluhu after fans threatened to boycott his music. Ali Kiba issued a public apology, asking fans for forgiveness. Harmonize postponed a planned concert in Dodoma due to mounting pressure on artistes seen as aligned with the government
