Dama Wa Spares makes emotional appeal for media personality Betty Wa Macharia’s ailing child

Businesswoman Damaris Muriithi, popularly known as Dama Wa Spares, has made an emotional public appeal after learning about the health struggles facing the young daughter of media personality Betty Wa Macharia.

In a post made on Facebook on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Dama revealed that she had learnt about the child’s condition only a few days earlier, noting that the situation deeply moved her and compelled her to speak out.

“I learnt about Betty Wa Macharia’s ailing daughter a few days ago. I have never asked for any support on my platforms, but this one truly broke my heart. I have known Betty for quite some time, and she genuinely needs our support,” she wrote.

She explained that although she rarely asks for help on her platforms, Betty’s story broke her heart due to the prolonged and silent struggle the media personality has endured.

“Betty has walked this journey alone for a long while, until this season when she felt completely drained and decided to speak out,” she added.

According to Dama, Betty has walked the difficult journey largely on her own for months, only choosing to speak out after reaching a point of complete exhaustion.

She described the mother as emotionally, physically, and financially drained, adding that the burden had become too heavy for her to carry alone.

“She is drained emotionally, physically, and financially. She can no longer walk this journey alone. Watching your child struggle and not being able to fix it, as a mother, breaks you in ways words cannot explain,” Dama wrote.

She further highlighted the emotional toll of watching a child suffer without being able to make things better, describing it as a pain that breaks a mother in ways words cannot fully explain.

She appealed to the public to stand with Betty through prayers, encouragement, and any form of support they could offer, saying the family urgently needs collective compassion during this difficult season.

“With a humble heart, we are reaching out to ask for your prayers, encouragement, and any support you may be able to offer. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as we trust God for strength, healing, and a turnaround,” Dama added.

Debilitating illness

The appeal comes just a day after Betty herself shared a deeply personal account detailing her daughter’s health challenges.

In the post shared on Facebook on Friday, December 19, 2025, Betty revealed that her child has been unwell since she was just three months old, a journey that has stretched close to a year.

“My baby has been unwell since she was just three months old, and for almost a year now, my heart has been carrying a battle I never imagined. At first, I feared it was cerebral palsy, but by God’s grace, it was ruled out. I chose to stay quiet, believing I was strong enough to carry this journey alone,” she shared at the time.

Despite choosing to remain silent and strong for months, Betty admitted that the prolonged hospital visits, therapy sessions, and medical reviews had taken a heavy toll on her.

She disclosed that her daughter is currently under serious paediatric and nutritional care, attends therapy twice a week, and is unable to sit or stand on her own.

The child’s low immunity has also resulted in frequent infections and multiple hospital admissions.

“Eleven months later, I can honestly say I am exhausted and at my breaking point. My little girl is under serious paediatric and nutritional reviews and attends therapy twice every week because she cannot sit well and cannot stand at all. Her immunity is low, making her prone to frequent infections. We have been admitted to the hospital twice, with countless hospital visits in between,” Betty added.
