He added that some things could not work because of their backgrounds.

“Si unajua mimi na u Luhya yangu siwezi bend, kuna vitu siwezi kubali ziganyike,” he said.

Cultural clashes led to the breakup

Daddy Owen said the differences eventually led them to part ways.

“We crashed, that ilifika mahali we had to now we have to part ways,” he explained.

He said she wanted them to move to America, but at that time, his music career in Kenya was starting to pick up.

He asked her, “Exactly what am I coming to do in America?” and realised it could not work.

He said that while she was already a nurse and earning well, moving did not make sense for him.

“Niliona tu it can’t work,” he said.

He added that he took her to the bus station when they parted, and his mother also witnessed some of the events.

Daddy Owen reflected on the experience as a learning moment. He said that despite the initial excitement, cultural differences can have a big impact on relationships.

“There are so many things nili realise zingekataa kuwork,” he said, noting that understanding and compromise are important but sometimes not enough.

He said the relationship taught him that love alone is not always enough to overcome practical differences.

“Alikua anataka twende America na mimi sasa that time ndio mziki imeanza ku pick hapa Kenya,” he explained, saying that life goals and timing are crucial in a relationship.

Daddy Owen concluded that although the romance ended, it helped him understand what he values in a partner and the importance of aligning culture, career, and plans.
