Corazon Kwamboka: Women should not have to beg to be kept safe

Fitness influencer Corazon Kwamboka has spoken out following the death of a young woman in Nairobi, calling for stronger action to protect women.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, she said the situation shows serious failure by those who could have stepped in. She stressed that safety should never depend on a woman pleading for help.

“This Connie story is heartbreaking and deeply disturbing. A young woman appeared to be asking for help, reaching out for protection, and the people who could have intervened did nothing,” Corazon posted.

Kwamboka explained that signs of fear or distress should never be ignored in any situation. She said security personnel, friends, and even strangers have a duty to respond when someone appears unsafe. Corazaon Kwamboka added that ignoring such moments can lead to tragic outcomes.

“Women should not have to beg to be kept safe,” she said.

She also pointed out that the focus in such cases often shifts unfairly to the woman involved amid concern over femicide cases in the country.

“When a woman shows fear, distress, or asks for help, it must be taken seriously. Security personnel, bystanders, friends, men in society, everyone has a responsibility to act,” she said.

Focus on accountability and justice

Kwamboka said conversations should move away from blame and instead address the failures that allow harm to happen. She explained that it is important to look at warning signs that may have been missed. She added that accountability is key in preventing similar cases.

“Instead of blaming women, asking why she was there, or talking about ‘wanting the good life,’ the focus should be on the actions of the man involved, the failures of those who ignored clear warning signs,” she said.

“I hope Connie gets justice. I hope the truth comes out,” she said.

Her statement comes after the death of 22-year-old Consolata Githinji in Kileleshwa. Police in Nairobi are investigating the incident after she reportedly fell from the sixth floor of a short-stay apartment. She was a fourth-year student at Muranga University.

Reports indicate that the student, also known as “Connie,” had met her lover on a popular dating site. She died on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the early hours after falling from the high-rise building.
