Popular Kikuyu YouTuber Chuma Moto has issued a public apology and deleted a viral interview featuring gospel singer Jane Muthoni’s mother after receiving a demand letter from the singer’s legal team.

Speaking in an interview shared by Kikuyu Star on TikTok on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Chuma Moto expressed regret over the situation and apologised to Jane Muthoni’s family, maintaining that he did not intend to cause harm or tarnish anyone’s reputation through the interview.

“I want to say again that I am very sorry to Jane Muthoni’s family. That does not mean I did anything wrong. Many people are now asking where the video went. What happened is that I deleted the video on YouTube after I received a demand letter from Jane Muthoni’s lawyer, asking me to take it down,” he said.

Chuma Moto further revealed that following the circulation of the interview, a well-wisher identified as Wakili Phyllis stepped in and offered to assist the elderly woman by facilitating medical attention, particularly for her eyesight.

He explained that he later accompanied the woman to hospital to verify her condition, especially after the demand letter stated that the claims made during the interview were untrue.

“My intention was for the mother to get help, not to expose anyone. There is also a woman called Wakili Phyllis who came forward after my interview and said she would help Jane Muthoni’s mother by taking her to the hospital to have her eyes checked. That is why I also went to the hospital to confirm whether she has an eye problem, especially because the demand letter stated that what her mother said was not true,” he added.

He stated that medical checks confirmed that the woman indeed has an eye problem, reinforcing his belief that her situation required urgent attention and support.

Despite this, he emphasised that he chose to comply with the legal directive and removed the video to avoid further conflict.

“We went to the hospital, and it has been confirmed that she indeed has an eye problem. However, I have still gone ahead and deleted the interview. I want to say again that I did not intend to cross any boundaries or tarnish anyone’s name. I only wanted to help the mother because she said she was suffering and had been abandoned,” he said.

Chuma Moto also addressed questions from members of the public who had been asking about the disappearance of the video, explaining that he prioritised resolving the matter amicably over any potential benefits the content could have generated.

He noted that any income the video might have earned was not important compared to ensuring the woman receives the help she needs.

He reiterated that he had no intention of crossing boundaries or damaging reputations, stressing that his role was simply to amplify the plight of a vulnerable individual.

“I deleted the video, and whatever income it could have generated is not important. The most important thing is for the mother to get help,” Chuma Moto stated.
